 Tuesday Wonders - Vosne Romanee

At the heart of the Cote de Nuits, Vosne Romanée is the source of some of the most covetable wines imaginable. There are six Grand Crus here and sixteen Premier Crus. The village wines can also offer a great deal of satisfaction when sourced from the best producers. There is evidence of wine-making here that pre-dates even the Roman period, although it was during the era when land was controlled by the great monasteries that its reputation was established. One distinguished historian of the region observed wisely that ‘There are no common wines in Vosne.’

 Introductory offer:
Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Over a period of four decades Diego and Nora Molinari have been responsible for some of the bottles that have defined Brunello di Montalcino as a wine and as a region.  The core of the vineyard was planted in 1977 when the Molinaris first purchased the property. Vines are planted on Galestro soils which are typically the base of the best Tuscan vineyards, a mixture of limestone and sand. Apart from the grape vine, olive trees are about the only other agricultural crop these soils can sustain. Vineyards are on a north-east exposure between 350 – 400 metres above sea level. The 2012 was one of the last vintages made by the Molinaris who sold to new owners in 2015 due to health concerns.

Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2012
Dark ruby-red. Deep, complex aromas of dark red cherry, violet, flint, licorice and underbrush. Rich dense and juicy, with multilayered flavors of dark red cherry, tar and licorice. Smooth yet vibrant, this is much more austere and almost brooding in nature than the more open-knit 2011.' Vinous 92 points
