THE 2024 VINTAGE

The 2024 Bordeaux vintage presents a unique challenge, with producers navigating a series of hurdles throughout the growing season. While many wines may not reach the heights of previous years, a select few estates have crafted commendable offerings that highlight resilience and adaptability. This vintage showcases the creativity of winemakers who pushed the boundaries to achieve quality in the face of adversity.

Despite the ups and downs, the year underscores the importance of terroir and the skill of growers. While some wines exhibit lighter profiles and herbaceous notes, they also reflect a refreshing character that speaks to the season's challenges and the innovative approaches taken by producers.

THE WEATHER CONDITIONS

The weather in 2024 began with a warm, wet winter that set an intriguing stage for the growing season.
Budbreak occurred slightly later than in 2023, followed by cool and rainy conditions that fostered a heightened awareness of vineyard management. March to May experienced significant rainfall, making it one of the most dynamic springs recorded.

Flowering was protracted, leading to varied ripeness within grape bunches, yet this also created opportunities for attentive growers to fine-tune their harvest strategies. By June, while some vineyards faced mildew challenges, others thrived, showcasing the adaptability of well-situated estates.

July brought more favorable weather, with below-average rainfall and temperatures returning to typical levels. Veraison commenced in late July, and as growers adjusted their approaches, many found moments of optimism. In September, although rain and cooler temperatures posed additional considerations, many producers made thoughtful decisions about harvest timing, particularly for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Overall, the varied weather conditions throughout the season contributed to a distinctive vintage, highlighting the significance of ripeness and the innovative spirit of Bordeaux's winemakers.
