Churton Wines was established in 1997 by the Weaver family, who recognized the exceptional potential of Marlborough's diverse microclimates and soils to produce world-class, terroir-expressive wines. Founders Sam and Mandy Weaver chose a distinctive hillside site in the Waihopai Valley as the home for their winery, drawn to the site's unique geology and ideal conditions for cultivating Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Pinot Noir.

The Weavers' first vintage was in 1999, with the release of their inaugural Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. These early wines immediately gained acclaim for their exceptional balance, complexity, and elegant expression of Marlborough's terroir. Over the subsequent decades, Churton has steadily expanded its portfolio, introducing new varietals like Viognier and Petit Manseng that thrive in their estate vineyard.

A key focus for Churton has been adopting biodynamic farming practices, which they believe allow the character of their hillside site to shine most vividly. Since 2009, their entire estate has been certified organic and biodynamic, making Churton one of Marlborough's pioneering producers in this sustainable approach.

Churton's most famous and sought-after wines include their single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, which showcases the unique minerality and salinity imparted by the estate's stony, clay-rich soils. Their Viognier is also highly acclaimed, praised for its remarkable balance of richness and freshness. In the red wine realm, Churton's Pinot Noir and Petit Manseng have become iconic, offering profound depth, structure, and varietal purity.

Today, the Weaver family continues to push the boundaries of Marlborough's winemaking potential, guided by their commitment to biodynamics and a deep connection to their distinctive hillside site. Churton's wines are cherished globally for their soulful, textural qualities and singular expression of one of New Zealand's most dynamic wine regions.
